What should you offer members?

To be approved as a Seniors Card participating business, your offer needs to be judged as substantial enough to be of genuine value to South Australian Seniors Card members.

Minimum guidelines

Discount: 10% or more, though may vary based on the nature and cost of what you’re selling.

Other benefit or added value: Must be broadly appealing, applicable to most or all customers and equivalent to at least the 10% discount guideline.

What are the benefits to my business?

  • As soon as it is approved, your listing will appear on the Seniors Card Discounts & Deals website, free of charge.
  • New business partners will be promoted to subscribed Seniors Card members.
  • Access to 410,000 Seniors Card members through our powerful, responsive marketing channels.

Upon joining the program, the Seniors Card Business Partner Welcome Kit will be sent to you containing:

  • Details about the program and members.
  • Signs and stickers to show customers you participate and make your business stand out.

Direct mail (DM) and electronic direct mail (eDM)

Our direct mail campaigns can reach up to 360,000 members who have opted in to receive information or special offers from our partners by post. Over 100,000 members have opted into eDM (email) marketing and information. DM and eDM campaigns are:

  • highly targeted to match your objectives
  • easily measured so you can track your sales and information requests
  • personalised (by request)
  • exclusive to members with capped avails to maximise member engagement
  • creative and marketable communication pieces

Inserts in new Seniors Card member 'Welcome Packs'

Over 25,000 seniors join the South Australian Seniors Card program each year. The majority of these seniors have recently turned 60 years of age. This is a great opportunity for businesses to communicate directly with the ‘Baby Boomer’ market. New members don’t automatically receive a Seniors Card, they need to apply for it, meaning businesses are able to reach pro-active applicants versus passive recipients, maximising your results. Members are also excited to receive their 'Welcome Pack’ thus ensuring your insertion is part of a positive experience. 'Inserts' campaigns that capitalise on celebrating and welcoming the member to the program with your marketing offer do particularly well.

WeekendPlus – a digital lifestyle magazine for seniors

WeekendPlus features engaging lifestyle content delivered to over 125,000 member inboxes each fortnight by eDM which members can then click through to read via the WeekendPlus pages on seniorscard.com.au. Options include:

Why the seniors market is important to your business

Getting the best value from your Seniors Card partnership

  • Once your offer is live on the Seniors Card website, review at least annually via the Seniors Card Business Partner Portal to ensure  it remains relevant and update any necessary details.
  • Ensure that your offer is genuine and easy to understand.
  • List any terms and conditions clearly i.e. ‘Monday-Friday only’ or, ‘member meal only’. Please contact the Seniors Card marketing team if you have any queries around wording.
  • Display the 'Seniors Card Welcome Here' window stickers and point of sale material at all outlets – seniors say they feel welcomed and valued by businesses displaying the logo.
  • Include the 'Seniors Card Welcome Here' logo in your marketing.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of the Seniors Card offer and are able to answer any questions.
  • For online businesses, please ensure codes are functional and the checkout experience is tested prior to offer being published online.
  • Treat seniors with respect and let them know you value their wisdom and experience.
  • Don't describe older people as 'geriatric', 'aged' or 'elderly'. Use preferred terms like 'seniors' and 'older people'.

How your business can create an age-friendly environment and attract more customers

  • Display the 'Seniors Card Welcome Here' decals at all outlets – seniors say they feel welcomed and valued by businesses displaying the logo.
  • Use large, clear fonts for signage, printed materials and websites and websites.
  • Go the extra mile for the older customer, such as offering a drink of water.
  • Promote discounts and benefits for older people at every opportunity.
  • Provide respectful customer service, in person and over the phone.
  • Consider offering to carry large/heavy purchases to the customer's car.
  • Have an area where customers can sit and rest.
  • Allow customers to use the bathroom.
  • Ensure your business is accessible by providing handrails and ramps and keep aisles clear of obstacles.
  • Have music at a moderate level.

Signage in store or in connection with your brand tells seniors they are welcome and can attract new customers. The main reason Seniors Card members don't use their card is that there is no Seniors Card signage displayed.

WeekendPlus

WeekendPlus is a lifestyle focused digital publication emailed fortnightly to over 125,000 Seniors Card members.
