David and Audrey Williams share about their experience of receiving hospital-level care in the comfort and privacy of their own home.

When David Williams became unwell earlier this year, he visited the emergency department at Modbury Hospital where he was offered the choice of receiving his care at home. David recalled, “They offered me My Home Hospital and I thought it sounded very good. My wife was a bit apprehensive about it.” Audrey Williams, David’s wife of 63 years shared, “I was a bit sceptical at first, but the service was excellent. It’s easier all round. You don’t have to find a car park and all that and it meant that I could keep an eye on him.”

How does My Home Hospital work?

My Home Hospital is available for a range of conditions for which home care is considered safe and appropriate. The service brings care in the form of doctors, nurses, allied health practitioners, some x-rays and blood tests, medications and other support services such as personal care, if necessary. Home health technology is also used, helping you to feel safe at home knowing that nurses and doctors are monitoring your progress and can intervene if your condition worsens.

Audrey highlighted her perspective of the care her husband received from My Home Hospital, “The nurses were beautiful. They had a sense of humour, which I appreciated. The telephone consults with the doctors came through every morning and they spoke to David for quite some time, which was good.” David shared his thoughts as well, “The nurses came in every day on time and they were very chatty and very friendly. The nurses also helped me out with technology.”

How do I access My Home Hospital?

The service is available at no charge to suitable public patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across the Adelaide metropolitan area and the Gawler Hospital catchment including Mallala, Two Wells, Freeling and other locations. Further expansion is planned for later this year and 2022.

You can be referred to My Home Hospital by your GP, medical specialist, nurse practitioner, SA Ambulance Service paramedics or from an emergency department or hospital.

To find out if you are suitable, speak with your doctor.
