A new community space has opened in Adelaide thanks to an Office for Ageing Well Positive Ageing Fellowship Grant, as well as mentoring support from The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI).
Situated just off Light Square in the city, the bright and welcoming space is called Wauwi Inparrila and is managed by Housing Choices South Australia.
For local residents and visitors from surrounding suburbs the area provides opportunities for meaningful connections, life enhancing action and greater access to relevant and timely information and support.
“Homes and community are important – but so are meaningful connections, and we can see that embodied in this space,” said Cassie Mason, Executive Director, Office for Ageing Well, at the launch in August.
In addition, Wauwi Inparrila has already hosted an array of interesting community events, including an Over 50s iPad program and a Men’s Health Week breakfast.
The name ‘Wauwi Inparrila’ honours Wauwi, the wife of Kadlitpina, a prominent Kaurna Elder, while Inparrilla is the Kaurna word for ‘Meeting Place’ – a name that honours the truth, history and hopes for the space.

Bookings approval will prioritise strengths-based projects that actively promote social inclusion, capacity building, sustainability and community leadership with events providing free community access hosted at no charge, and discount rates for not-for-profit organisations.
Office for Ageing Well provides a range of Ageing Well Community Grants to fund initiatives that reflect the South Australian Government’s commitment to supporting South Australians to age well.
