A conversation, a smile, or a shared story. Small moments like this can mean so much for an older person facing isolation or loneliness.

Volunteer visitors can help bring conversation, news, new interest, friendship and connection to someone who truly needs it.

As part of the Australian Government’s Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, COTA SA is looking for kind-hearted volunteers to visit lonely and isolated individuals to share a little time, conversation, and care.

Volunteering as a COTA Visitor is a rewarding experience for both the visitor and the person they visit, with many long-lasting friendships and strong connections formed along the way.
Visitors and the person they visit are matched based on location and interests and support is provided to create a friendship through regular visits.

Becoming a COTA SA Visitor doesn’t require any special experience. What matters most is empathy, patience, and the willingness to spend time with someone who may have few social connections.

The time commitment is small, around an hour a week or fortnight, but it can make a profound difference for someone who is isolated due to limited mobility, family circumstances, or health challenges.

COTA SA is currently recruiting volunteers who can commit to visiting for around one hour every week or fortnight in the Adelaide metropolitan area.

COTA SA offers ongoing training, fuel reimbursements and continual support during your friendship journey.
