Festival for the Future will be held at Riddoch Arts Centre in Mount Gambier, 2-3 October 2024, during South Australia’s annual Week of Ageing Well.

LGBTIQA+ people face unique challenges in preparing to age well and living authentically in aged care is not a given, particularly in regional areas where access to services with expertise in understanding these Rainbow Community-specific challenges may be limited.
Rainbow community members, the people who care for them, and service providers who support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people are warmly invited and encouraged to attend the two-day festival. Hosted by The Equality Project in partnership with Office for Ageing Well and Seniors Card, the event will bring services, workshops, and social events to the region, to support LGBTIQA+ people to age well.
Hear from providers in health, aged care, and retirement planning. Learn about legal options - Wills, General and Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advance Care Directives and gain information specific to the Rainbow community, including about retiring and protecting your future.
The event will feature capacity-building workshops aimed at increasing older LGBTIQA+ people's capacity to advocate for themselves and their communities, in a healthy and sustainable manner, teaching skills to avoid burnout and set healthy boundaries.
Finally, there will be the chance to have fun and connect with others in a range of settings and activities, from facilitated conversations, activities that involve meeting and working with new people, and an evening social event.
Ageing well means something different to each person and their individual circumstances. To learn more about ageing well, including how to best support someone in the LGBTIQA+ community, visit The Equality Project’s website and book tickets.
