A fabulous new free exhibition, Our Footy, Our People, Our Stories, celebrating 145 years of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) has opened at the State Library of South Australia.

The State Library and the SANFL History Centre are partnering to bring this exploration of South Australia’s sporting history alive, cherishing its characters, colour, and controversies, and acknowledging the SANFL which is Australia’s oldest football league.

The exhibition showcases an extensive range of items from the History Centre and the State Library, including trophies, photographs, Football Budgets, awards, fan memorabilia, and a seven-metre photograph of Adelaide Oval.

Visitors can also relax in the theatrettes to watch film and video from the SANFL’s significant visual collection.

The exhibition is the foundation of the Footy Trail, including tours of Adelaide Oval where visitors can book to see Magarey Medals in the SANFL Chairman’s Room. At the Migration Museum there is a display of SANFL players from different nations, and the SANFL Multicultural Team of the Century.

From early August the National Wine Centre will host a stunning display of Lionel Coventry caricatures of South Australian identities from the worlds of football, law, and wine, spanning the 1920s-1950s.

The exhibition is supported by major partner, Meals on Wheels SA, and corporate partners, including the Office for Ageing Well and Seniors Card, WeekendPlus, Kia Australia, AFL, Simon Alexander Jewellers and West End
