Researchers from the University of Sydney are looking for people with low back pain to volunteer in a free online study.

The research aims to help motivate and support people with low back pain to remain physically active and stick to the treatment programs which have been prescribed to them by their GP, physiotherapist, or chiropractor.

The study involves a usual care group and a back pain support system group. You have a 50% chance to be randomly put into either study group.

Both groups will be asked to continue with the treatment programs which have been prescribed to them for their low back pain, by their health care professional. This might include advice, education, and/or exercises.

In addition, the support system group will be invited to take part in a health coaching program delivered over the phone. The program is run by the Get Healthy Service® and involves up to 10 coaching sessions over a period of 6 months. A personal health coach will support you to achieve healthy lifestyle goals that are important to you, including increasing your physical activity levels.

The study also involves filling out some online forms, keeping an activity diary, and wearing an activity tracker for one week at the start and middle of the study.

This project is funded by Western Sydney Local Health District and the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.
