City of Port Adelaide Enfield has developed a series of seminars to support people to work on their coping mechanisms for when life throws up unexpected surprises.

Informal discussions with older people, volunteers, and staff found they were able to cope better if they had some preparation.

Each seminar centres on a particular life event theme, offering opportunities for active participation, guided by expert presenters.

Sessions provide an opportunity for life-long learning, a chance to share experiences and the potential to meet new people.

To date, seminars have included Resilience & Character Strengths: What is resilience and how do you get it; New Social Opportunities: How to make new friends; and Caring Role: How to know when to ask for help?

The next exciting seminar is Downsizing your home: The secret of successful downsizing.

Trevor Elburn from My House My Home will discuss alternatives to downsizing, common concerns, making informed choices and retirement/near retirement housing opportunities.
