With cost of living pressures, many South Australians are looking for smarter ways to manage what they spend on energy at home. Pensioners, concession card holders, and low-income renters may be able to receive additional rebates and savings on a new hot water system.

The Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS), offered through the State Government’s rebate program for energy‑efficient home appliances, remains available to Priority Group customers throughout 2026. Eligible Priority Group households can access up to $1,017 in additional rebates when installing a new hot water system.

What this could mean for you

Combined with the federal rebate scheme available on all energy efficient hot water systems newly installed, Priority Group customers could get up to:

  • $1,621.80 off recommended retail price (RRP)  for supply and install in homes with NO natural gas connected, or
  • $901.80 off RRP for supply and install in homes with natural gas connected.

For example:

For an iStore 180L heat pump, a reputable and energy-efficient heat pump hot water system, RRP for supply and install is $4,177.40 – however a priority group customer would only be paying only $2,630, including GST.

What is a Priority Group customer

A Priority Group household is defined as a residential property where at least one resident meets the following criteria:

  • Holds a Commonwealth Government concession card e.g., cards issued by Centrelink, pensioner concession card, TPI Gold Repatriation Health Card, War Widow's Gold Repatriation Health Card, Gold Repatriation Health Card, health care card including low-income health care card
  • Receives the South Australian government energy bill concession; or
  • Has a residential tenancy agreement with the landlord of the premises and the rent for the premises is $500 or less per week; or
  • Is actively participating in an energy retailer hardship program; or
  • Is actively participating in an energy retailer’s payment plan; or
  • Has received a referral from a registered member of the South Australian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA).

All you need to do is provide proof that you meet one of the Priority Group criteria, and the eligible rebate amount will be deducted from your invoice at the point of sale. If you wish to have your gas connection removed to qualify for the higher rebate, they can usually arrange this as well, typically at no additional cost.

Start saving up to two thirds on your water heating costs with a new, efficient heat pump system. Contact the team at Hotwater.com.au, mention that you are a Priority Group customer with one of the listed concessions, and the sales team will work to secure the best possible deal for you.
