The Town of Gawler’s Council adopted its inaugural Ageing Well Framework (the Framework) on 26 July 2022. The Framework was developed by The Plug-In, the social enterprise team at Council on the Ageing SA (COTA SA), following a comprehensive community and stakeholder consultation process.

With a growing population of residents aged 65 years and over, the Framework inspires the Town of Gawler to create an age-friendly community, which ensures older residents can continue to live healthy, enriched, meaningful and socially connected lives.

But what does an age-friendly community really look like?

It promotes diversity, inclusion and cohesion across all ages and capabilities and encourages and supports active and positive ageing.

The Ageing Well Framework will guide Council’s future operations and impacts all areas of Council business. It supports the identification and implementation of opportunities that enhance the quality of life for people as they age, promoting positive health and wellbeing, participation and security.

These include improvements to the physical environments, which support how residents move around the Township. The Framework will also help identify how to increase social inclusion and community participation, whilst supporting investments in public services and infrastructure, for the benefit of older residents.

The development of an Ageing Well Framework demonstrates the commitment of the Town of Gawler to ensuring that community members living in and around Gawler continue to be supported to live healthy, enriched and connected lives.
