A Barossa distiller has won international recognition for crafting a gin which incorporates the region's rich wine heritage.

Barossa Distilling Co. took out the award for World’s Best Flavoured Gin at the 2024 World Gin Awards on 22 February for their ‘Barossa Shiraz Gin’.

The World Gin Awards said the Barossa Distilling Co. Shiraz Gin boasts “a bold aroma and a rich taste that marries red Shiraz grape fruits with botanical notes”.

This, along with its quality, craftsmanship and unique flavour profile contributed to it being an “excellent example of its kind”.

Barossa Distilling Co. founder Neil Bullock said he was proud of the win.

“Receiving an honour of this magnitude from such a prestigious competition is a massive source of pride and a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the whole team,” he said.

“With access to the best shiraz grapes in the world and seven vintages of refining this gin, we have got it spot on and are very grateful for the recognition of the expert panel at the World Gin Awards.”

Barossa Distilling Co. says that this gin is a reflection of the wine heritage formed in the Barossa Valley.

Founded in 2016, Barossa Distilling Co. produces vodka, brandy, liquors and whisky, but it began as a craft gin distillery.

Creating this Shiraz Gin takes more than 10 weeks of hands-on, small-scale setting, to get a silky smooth texture with an inky depth.

The annual World Gin Award ceremony recognises the finest gin from around the globe and involves a blind tasting process with an expert panel of judges.

Barossa Distilling Co. products are available for purchase at their distillery door located at 18-28 Tanunda Road, Nuriootpa, or through their website.
