In 2023, the History Trust of South Australia will celebrate ten years of its much-loved Talking History seminar series by reviewing what we talk about, with whom and how, while also listening to what you have to say about the future too!

In partnership with University of South Australia, the History Trust’s Talking History will include an exciting range of new topics and speakers drawn from different disciplines and professions, across South Australia and interstate.

The series will also evolve from single-speaker to panel events with three or four presenters waxing lyrical on pressing matters and hot-potato subjects ranging from SA’s ‘Wonder Women’, to collecting passions and fashions, before we go ‘Behind the Veil’ in October to reconsider the relationship between history and the uncanny in the lead-up to Halloween!

Although much is changing, some things will stay the same. Talking History will still be held in person and online throughout the year in May, June, September and October.

Never fear, the History Trust will not leave you twiddling your thumbs in the alternating months for we will also be presenting a series of Orations with recognised public figures sharing their expertise on a wide range of topics:

  • South Australia’s First Nations perspectives and people (Gladys Elphick Oration)
  • Science and Exploration (Sir Hubert Wilkins Oration)
  • Law, Justice and Women (Dame Roma Mitchell Oration)
  • Medicine and Well-being (Jennifer Cashmore Oration)
