It’s such a joy that for this, my third OzAsia Festival program, I’ve been able to re-connect in person with artists in our region. As a result, we’ve invited some stunning productions that are exciting audiences in Asia, while continuing to support new Asian Australian works and fertile artistic collaborations across Asia and Australia.

Reflecting the times, the themes of freedom, survival of endangered cultures and resilience are occupying the thoughts of many artists right now, providing profound and provocative works for the program.

I'm thrilled to present two standout contemporary dance works this season. Taiwan's Bulareyaung Dance Company brings to the stage tiaen tiamen Episode 1, a dynamic collaboration that unites the talents of choreographer Bulareyaung Pagarlava, pop sensation ABAO, and visionary Paiwanese artist reretan pavavaljung. On a similar innovative note, Singapore’s leading dance troupe, T.H.E Dance Company, invites us with Infinitely Closer to be more than mere spectators. By blending fluid movement with cutting-edge technology, they usher the audience onstage, offering a uniquely immersive dance experience.

Our music and theatre lineup promises power and depth. Be moved by the poignant I Swallowed A Moon Made of Iron and traverse memory lanes with the evocative 1988. Theatre lovers can anticipate the emotive Buried TeaBowl – OKUNI, among others. The much-loved Special Comedy Comedy Special returns, and our venues will be buzzing with exhibitions, film screenings, and signature events like the Moon Lantern Trailand Bubble Tea Garden! This OzAsia Festival is a testament to artistic resilience and creativity, and I eagerly await sharing these experiences with you.

We are very grateful for the long-standing support of Office for Ageing Well and Seniors Card. Their commitment has supported much-loved programs within the festival, including In Other Words. If you think all writer’s festivals are the same, think again. In Other Words presents intelligence and insights from perspectives that are overdue on centre stage. We invite you to join the conversation as we shift the focus, and through wit, wisdom, and inspiration, you too might shift your view.

I’ll see you there!
