This year, OzAsia Festival is thrilled to be working in association with Adelaide Film Festival to present exciting new films from a selection of top Asian filmmakers, featuring a unique showcase of Indonesian films from the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival.

Monster (Japan, 2023)

Monster is a captivating narrative that challenges our perceptions. A troubled boy’s alarming actions cast suspicion on his teacher, uncovering a complex web of truth and deceit. Prepare to embark on a thought-provoking journey through the intricacies of human nature.

Galang (Indonesia, 2022)

Directed by Adriyanto Dewo

The death of Suharto in 2008 marked a turning point, but a younger generation mourned those killed in a stampede at a Bandung heavy metal concert. Galang lost his sister in the crush and now rages against the subculture that rages against the machine.

Seven Winters in Tehran (Germany/France, 2023)

Directed by Steffi Niederzoll

In 2007, 19-year-old Reyhaneh Jabbari stabs and kills her attempted rapist in self-defence. However, the influence of the deceased man’s former employer, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence, is felt through the legal process.

The Shadowless Tower (China, 2023)

Directed by Zhang Lu

The intricacies of Beijing life have never been as lovingly rendered as they are in Zhang Lu’s calmly composed, redemptive dramedy. As food critic Gu confronts mid-life challenges – divorce, loss, and parenthood – a tender connection with photographer, Ouyang, and a reunion with his estranged father gradually uplift him from his malaise.
