Music is a big part of Illuminate Adelaide’s annual program, adding depth to visual art installations and providing a space for the biggest and boldest artists from around the world to have a home in Australia.
Blending visual art and music together in a collaborative way is KLASSIK underground. Returning for its second year at Illuminate Adelaide, renowned musician Tahlia Petrosian has collaborated with artists Tim Gruchy and Joli Boardman (aka Joli.Vision) to create moving image works to complement music performed by musicians from Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the famed Gewandhaus Orchestra from Germany. Set in Dom Polski Centre in Adelaide’s CBD, this is an entirely new way to experience classical music – with a modern, bold twist.
Australian rock legends Yothu Yindi will perform at Hindley Street Music Hall in a special NAIDOC Week celebration. Showcasing hits from their 30-year career, Yothu Yindi will bring new meaning and nuance to their timeless anthems and political hits that maintain their relevance and weight to this day.
Experimental music finds its home in Adelaide from 14 – 16 July with Poland’s Unsound Festival taking over Dom Polski Centre, The Lab @ Light, and Hindley Street Music Hall. Featuring acts from around the world and from a range of genres, Unsound is undefinable – but that’s what makes it one of the most exciting events coming to Australia this year. In a special Unsound presentation, Oneohtrix Point Never – the alter ego of Mercury Prize-winning DJ and Producer Daniel Lopatin – will perform at Hindley Street Music Hall on 16 July.
