In 2023, Illuminate Adelaide is thrilled to welcome acclaimed artist, cook, and storyteller Poh Ling Yeow to not one, but three events in our free City Lights program.

A woman of many talents, being an artist is Poh’s first calling – and City Lights’ East Precinct program, which is devoted to Poh’s work The Girl, is testament to that.

To create the projection animations for this work, Poh is returning to the studio to bring The Girl, and her many faces, to life. Speaking to The Advertiser’s Patrick McDonald in April, Poh told of her desire to bring new depth to The Girl: “She morphs – I want people to be able to see themselves in her.”

Over in City Lights West Precinct, you can see Poh’s art in The Girl: Exhibition.

After finishing the City Lights East Precinct trail, head over to Level 1 at Light and see new works and a print retrospective from one of Australia’s most well-loved personalities.

The first exhibition from Poh in years, The Girl: Exhibition is an opportunity to see a different side of the Poh you know and love from the television screen.

Poh will also feature in Into the Light, a premiere presentation projected onto the façade of Government House, with the grounds open to the public from 7 – 23 July for City Lights.

Created by Cocoon Films, Into the Light features South Australian women who are leaders in their fields – from STEM, to politics, to entertainment, and everything in between.

Of being a part of this premiere event, Poh said: “It’s very encouraging to have [Into the Light] highlighting the successes of women: that solidarity is so needed”.
